After releasing a few singles and EPs since 2020, Chuwi recently released their latest project Pan, a four-song collection that expands on already existing Caribbean sounds with a fresh take that brings elements from the realms of hip hop, psychedelia and electronica. Pan starts with “Uwu”, a bolero with electronic and psychedelic elements that will surely play smoothly in listeners’ ears. Afterwards, “Rico y Pico” is a blend of bomba, bolero, electronic, psychedelia, salsa, and dembow elements that’ll continue to make people dance. Then “Tíkiri” continues to expand on the group’s salsa, hip hop and electronic influences in another song that keeps listeners dancing. Next “Increíble” is a beautiful mix of the group’s previous sounds, but this time around using bomba as the root of the track.
Overall, Chuwi’s Pan is a beautiful and fresh take towards traditional Caribbean sounds that blends those classics with psychedelia, electronic music, hip hop, and others to create something familiar, danceable, and full of potential.
