After starting their career with a few singles being released in 2021, La Dama de Atrás finally got a few songs together to release a much more complete project in the form of a self-titled debut EP that displays many of the sounds that inspire them. La Dama de Atrás starts with “Nostalgia”, a track that served as the band’s first single and one that finds them reflecting on past love through some relaxing ballad-driven rock. The following song is “Peculios”, a blues, jazz, classic R&B, and Latin rock-inspired tune that finds the group contemplating a bit on the current hardships of living in Puerto Rico, the struggles of being independent musicians and chasing one’s dreams. The first half of the project closes with “Títere”, where again the ensemble shows their blues and Latin rock influences as they ponder on the topic of manipulation. The second half of the EP starts with “Veneno”, the final single before the release of the project and a track that again finds the band telling a love story. Then, they deliver “Gaslight”, a bluesy and soulful song where the musicians show their ability to seamlessly blend both sounds while also appealing an English-speaking crowd. Closing the project is “Exorcismo”, a track which served as the group’s second single and one that encapsulates the variety of sounds being studied across the EP.
Overall, La Dama de Atrás’ self-titled debut EP is a fantastic blend of the band’s soul, jazz, alternative, Latin rock and blues influences as they present themselves as one of the new bands to look out for in the scene.
