After delivering a few singles in 2021, Cartagena compiles these and a few more tracks in his latest project, Jigante, a short EP that displays the artist’s hip hop sound mixed with a few others that are outside of his comfort zone while also delivering his first complete project in quite a few years. Jigante starts with “Capicú”, a lyrical display of the rapper’s skill over an entrancing beat. Afterwards, “Draco” is a mix of trap and drill that finds that artist again displaying his lyrical skills while exploring a different sound and entrancing listeners with it a hypnotic sample. Then “Kebab (Refe Jehza)” is another tune that finds the artist flexing over a beat inspired by rap, trap, and drill. Next “Refe 1 (J Balvin)” is a more of a traditional hip hop tune that finds the rapper flexing while slowing things down and reflecting in his people. Later, “Estilo Libre II” is a soulful boom bap song that finds the rapper showing off his lyrical skills while reflecting on recent experiences. Finally, “16-8” is another display of the artist’s abilities as he flexes over the beat.
Summing up, Cartagena’s Jigante is a short EP that almost serves as a mixtape and reminder of the artist’s lyrical skills as he explores a few different sounds but for the most part stays in the hip hop comfort zone.
