"Sancocho Studies/Yautia": Guabageuse Continues His Series Of Experimental Electronic Music5/11/2019 As one of the most active experimental musicians in the Puerto Rican indie music scene right now, Guabageuse has been delivering a variety of projects slowly expanding his interesting discography. By exploring genres that vary from the electronic to the psychedelic and surreal, Guabageuse has been able to maintain an eclectic sound while reflecting on his surroundings, a task he does yet again in his most recent release, Sancocho Studies/Yautia. Sancocho Studies/Yautia kicks off with “In Case of Flies…,” a surreal ambient tune which slowly turns into a somewhat danceable number. Afterwards, “Vimmy’s Request” serves as a psychedelic experimental electronic track that will have listeners switching between dancing and thinking. Then, “Tropical Jalcoal” uses elements from 8-bit and grimy electronic music to provide an experience which will have listeners feeling like they’re going on a trip through cyberspace. Next, “Jeffrey Gongora” is a bass-heavy and dreamy tune that provides a sense of introspection and space travel. Subsequently, “Fede Mercurio” is a slowly building track which can be viewed as a soundtrack for the internet and 8-bit video games while also serving as a form of progressive electronic music. Finally, Sancocho Studies/Yautia ends with “Carefully Flan,” a song that provides a good balance between 8-bit, electronic and prog music demonstrating how the young musician can balance it all to finish another very interesting EP. In short, Guabageuse’s Sancocho Studies/Yautia is another display of the artist’s flexibility and potential to be one of the finest avant-garde musicians in the Puerto Rican independent music scene.
