As the independent music scene continues to grow in Puerto Rico, hip hop and its sub-genres continue to take over the movement and gain some mainstream prominence. However, one genre that continues to stay underappreciated is instrumental hip hop, especially that which follows lo-fi aesthetics. Despite all of this, musicians like Recluso, Ejkew and Seint work hard to keep the genre alive. The latter of these recently released a new beat tape title “DORADA,” which he describes as a “second tape is a collection of short bumps, bootlegs, and loops I've worked on during my time back in New Orleans for the summer and it is mainly inspired by my great memories of the city and the previous year.” (cover art for the beat tape) Through the use of samples and loops, Seint takes a dream-like look back at his past. From jazzy lo-fi boom bap instrumentals like “jiggywiddit” and “sin ti” to the more experimental beats “skrrt skrrt,” which samples bossa nova with a bit of trap and “B$P$B,” which combines jazz with a Migos sample, Seint’s latest beat tape is a great mix of traditional lo-fi instrumental hip hop with current events providing a great glimpse at the music he was exploring at the moment and the effect New Orleans’ jazz had on his sound. In sum, this project is a good and to-the-point experimental project that sees the producer slowly grow as an artist.
